Retired since 2018, Mr. Stoll began his career as an associate with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York, New York from 1973 to 1981. He maintained involvement with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP as a member from 1981 to 2017. Throughout his career, he counseled his clients on antitrust matters in a variety of contexts such as mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. He represented such companies as EcoLab Inc., the May Department Store Co. and the Coca-Cola Co., among others. Mr. Stoll also served as lead counsel in United States v. The Gillette Company and United States v. Rank Organisation Plc.
Prior to embarking on his career, Mr. Stoll earned his Bachelor of Arts from the Honors Program in history, with distinction, from Pennsylvania State University in 1970. Following this achievement, he obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Fordham University in 1973. In 1974, he received his bar certification in New York as well as certification from the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern District of New York and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He earned further certification for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in 1982 and for United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in 1983. Mr. Stoll obtained his final certification from the Supreme Court of the United States in 1986.
In addition to his career, Mr. Stoll has been a lecturer with the Practicing Law Institute in New York, New York. He was a co-author of the Acquisitions Under the Hard Scott Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act in 1980, 1988 and 2008. He has also contributed over 360 articles to professional journals. Mr. Stoll is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the New York City Bar Association where he served on the trade regulation committee from 1983 to 1985.
Mr. Stoll has been the recipient of the Top New York Lawyer Award and has repeatedly been included in the Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. He was also honored in Leaders in Their Field in 2006. Mr. Stoll has previously been selected for inclusion in the 4th edition of Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America and multiple editions of Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in America.
